Komen Montana Announces New Executive Director

(Helena, MT) The Montana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announced today that Nancy Lee of Helena is the new Executive Director for the non-profit organization.  “I am inspired by Komen’s founder Nancy Brinker and her promise to her sister.  What impresses me is her focus on helping women, all women no matter their socio-economic status, religious and spiritual background, or political affiliation.  I too believe that working ‘together’ we can find a cure to breast cancer,” said Lee.

Komen Montana is a statewide organization and Lee wants to provide Montanans a way to be involved in breast cancer education, support and a cure.  “Many organizations are working to combat cancer,” Lee said.  “Komen has become a leader in funding for breast cancer education, testing and research.  I believe the various groups can support each other and impact more lives.  The upcoming May 21, 2011 Race for the Cure in Helena, offers the opportunity to support breast cancer survivors and honor those lost to the disease.  The money raised will be used in Montana for education and testing. Let’s show the spirit that makes Montana great.”

Lee worked 13 years as the Carroll College Executive Director for Advancement, responsible for Marketing, Communication, and Advancement services.  She also worked 21 years at Montana Power, accepting a severance package in 1996.

Komen for the Cure Montana officially formed in 1999 to carry out the promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  An existing group of dedicated breast cancer survivors, breast health advocates and others continue to work tirelessly as volunteers.  In 2007 the Affiliate hired its first Executive director.

In 2010 Komen Montana achieved the landmark goal of awarding more than one-million dollars in grants throughout the state.

Registration for the May 21, 2011 Race for the Cure is now open.
