For nearly 30 years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has been dedicated to ending breast
cancer through research, community outreach and advocacy. Our recommendations regarding
breast cancer risks are based entirely on scientific evidence and any suggestion to the contrary
is simply untrue. We base our recommendations on large, well-conducted, comprehensive
studies in people; the studies we rely on for any of our conclusions are fully cited on our
website, komen.org.

Our partners play an important role in supporting the programs that are vital to our mission and
we work closely with them to engage their customers, employees and communities to take
action in the fight against breast cancer. If there is any question about a product from Komen
partners or potential partner, the product is fully reviewed and carefully vetted by our Medical
and Scientific Affairs team for potential links to breast cancer in people.

Environmental issues related to breast cancer are important to Susan G Komen. We are
currently funding 18 grants totaling $7.1 million for environmental research and another $3.4
million in nutrition/lifestyle research. In December, we will reveal the results of a $1.5 million
grant to the Institute of Medicine to provide answers to the most pressing questions in cancer
and environmental research, and to chart a course for what areas of environmental study to
pursue. Our 2012 research portfolio will be invested in answering those questions.
